Scope of Practice and Things to Know
I am a part time therapist and structure my time to prepare for my appointments. I come fully present and ready to provide an attentive responsive collaboration with you. I schedule my appointments with 30 minutes in between so neither of us feel rushed. I strive for therapy to feel soothing and relaxing.
There are a variety of approaches to therapy. The therapeutic models that I identify most closely with are:
Carl Rogers Client Centered Therapy
Mindfulness Based Therapy
Spiritual Psychotherapy
Existential and Humanistic
EMDR - Trauma Reprocessing Therapy
Solution Focused
Research shows the most influential factor for successful outcomes for clients in therapy is the relationship that you feel with your counselor. We call this Goodness of Fit.
Goodness of Fit includes:
Feeling extremely comfortable with your therapist
Feeling like your therapist “gets you”
Feeling like you can share anything, you are safe and respected
Feeling confident in the expertise of your therapist
Because I am committed to your successful outcome and my availability is limited, I only accept clients that I feel a Goodness of Fit with and I have confidence I can help. This means that I work only with clients whose concerns are ones I have had extensive training in or have received counseling for myself.
Clients that fall outside the scope of my expertise and current practice are individuals with addictions, personality disorders, suicidal ideation, current eating disorders, and major depressive disorder. If you are within the scope of my practice, and we have a Goodness of Fit, I will be wholehearted and eager to start working with you quickly.
